Doors

A number of historical images have influenced my work recently. They happen to focus on doors and windows, which is a subject I have been drawn to for a while.

Editing and hanging the work

Now that I have the frames chosen, and have explored the space of the gallery virtually in terms of how to organise the exhibition, I have been considering carefully exactly what edit of all the images we made to display and how to hang the work.

Frederick H. Evans

The pioneer of architectural photograph Frederick H. Evans is not only of interest in my current work in terms of the subject matter of his practice, but also his ideas surrounding ‘pure’ photography.

Mounting the images

Once I had developed the Homelight images and dried them, they remained quite curled. It took a bit of experimentation to work out the best way to dry them as flat as possible.

Buying frames and mounts

After considering a number of framing options and deciding which type of frame to go with, as discussed in two previous blog posts, I have decided to use custom made frames from an online company. I have received examples of them (as I looked at in the decision blog post) and am certain they are the best choice for this series.

I have thought of a number of ways to hang the work, and will present them at a group critique with Gary soon.

Fourth shoot

The fourth and final home for the current incarnation of the Homelight Project was a smooth experience. The participant was very keen to try out the pinhole camera, and she and her partner were a little more experimental with some of their images.

Frame hunt

I have chosen my gallery for the Homelight exhibition, and I now need to decide on and order frames. I am aware that I have a lot of images to frame and display.

Elevator pitch

Having been told I need to be able to talk about my current project more succinctly, I’ve been working on an elevator pitch for Homelight.

Gallery choice

After considering a number of gallery options, I have decided to hire Old Brompton Gallery for my exhibition in July. This decision is based on a number of factors relating to both the success of the exhibition and my own experience of exhibiting.
