This image jumped out immediately as sharing both aesthetic choices and thematic ideas with the Homelight project. There are a number of key elements in this image I would like to explore further.

Anthropomorphising light

When looking at images that help to contextualise the Homelight project, I have been drawn not only to interior photography, but other genres too. Here I would like to explore three of these: abstract photography, street photography and war photography.

Considering framing

Now that I have potential galleries lined up, I’ve been thinking more about how I wish to display the work in a gallery setting.

Reflections

In my recent work I have been continually drawn to reflections of light off shiny surfaces such as wooden floors. This is less about the shadows created by light and objects, and more about the way the light interacts with the surfaces it reaches.

Third shoot

The third shoot went well. The participant was really keen to learn about the pinhole box camera and how to work it.

Gallery search

The current plan for the Homelight project is to present it in a gallery setting. It does not lend itself to a book, zine or online presence as the images are designed to be unique and viewed in person. There is no current plan to make the series available digitally except for MA purposes.

As the Homelight project progresses I find myself thinking more and more about the camera as a basic box.

Second shoot

My second shoot presented a number of challenges as it happened abroad, meaning I had to be prepared well in advance and would not be able to easily access my tools if the camera box for the participant broke.

Bernard Testemale’s Wet Plate Collodion Images

Bernard Testemale’s series of surfers, motorbikes and vintage cars in Hawaii took me by surprise.  I did not know it was on, I just happened to see posters for it in a town I often visit in the summer with family.

In a recent photo shoot for the Homelight project, I found that I underestimated the amount of light within the home and ended up with overexposed images.
